What’s Involved in the Earworx Procedure?
Earwax occurs naturally and plays an important role in protecting our ear canals. A healthy amount of ear wax protects the skin in our ears and is essential in lubricating the ear canal and helping to prevent infection. However, too much wax can become a problem.
Upon visiting the Kingston Clinic, you will be assessed by a GP to determine whether the procedure provided by Earworx is required. If removal is recommended, our Earworx registered nurse, Jade, will use gentle micro-suction to safely remove the built-up wax from your canal.
Using ‘loupes’, which are magnified glasses fitted with a bright light, Jade will be able to see directly into your ear canal. The entire process is safe, pain-free and will be over before you know it.
Symptoms of Excess Earwax
Excess wax can cause uncomfortable symptoms such as dizziness, loss of hearing, itching, pain and inner ear ringing.
If you’re a regular swimmer or diver, wear headphones or a hearing aid, use cotton buds in your ears, or have hairy or narrow ear canals, you could be at risk of an excessive build-up of earwax. It is also possible to be genetically predisposed to over-producing wax.
It’s important to never attempt to manually remove earwax yourself. Using your finger or a cotton bud can push the wax further down the canal and cause permanent damage.
If you believe you have wax related symptoms, don’t hesitate and book an appointment today.
